WHITE EARTH, MINN. – In 1986, Congress passed the White Earth Reservation Land Settlement Act (WELSA). One portion of the Act provided that the State of Minnesota transfer ownership of 10,000 acres (located within the boundaries of the reservation) to ownership by the United States to be held in trust for the White Earth Nation.
After 27 years, the last two parcels of land will be transferred during a WELSA 10K Acre Signing Celebration Wednesday, July 17 at 10 a.m. in the Roy Lake Room at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minn.
The public and media are invited to attend this very special event. Cake and refreshments will be served.
